Virtual room is a brand developed by the French start-up Univr. Since 2017, she creates and develops collaborative adventures in virtual reality and several centers have emerged in France.
Coming from the event industry and passionate about technology, Oriane Cornuot and Jean-Marc Lebrun fell in love with the concept. They left the Pays de la Loire region where they managed a karting circuit and took the direction of the Toulouse agglomeration to set up an independent center of the brand. Virtual room. After two years of work, it opened its doors on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 457, l’Occitane in Labège.
Teams of two to four players
“It’s a very immersive collaborative experience that takes place with teams of two to four players. Each person has a virtual reality headset and a controller. Physically, they are in separate spaces for safety reasons, but they are together in the game, ”explains Oriane Cornuot.
Thanks to headsets equipped with microphones, players communicate with each other. An important cooperative and social aspect for the two managers of the room. The video game then takes on the aspects of an escape game, even if Oriane Cornuot quickly puts limits on this comparison:
“It’s a collaborative adventure. We are often categorized as a virtual reality escape game because we are closely related to video games and cinema. But we are not just playing a puzzle game.”
We will learn, for example, that some tables offer action phases, but Oriane Cornuot does not want to reveal too much.
Two gaming experiences
Today, the virtual reality space has 12 HTC Vive wired headsets. “Graphically, it’s very successful. It requires a perfect helmet and that’s the best there is. People take their marks very quickly, ”says Oriane Cornuot.
Currently, the Virtual Room offers two experiences of the three created by Univr: Time travel 1 (accessible from 10 years old) and Time travel 2 (for 12 years old and over). Each of them offers approximately 50 minutes of actual play. “I think that in the long term, we offer other experiences afterwards. The first feedback is very positive. People are surprised by the very immersive side, ”notes the manager.
The target audience is family but thanks to the cooperative values of the concept, Virtual Room also targets companies. A meeting room is also at their disposal. The building also has with a space of 450 m2for customers to share their post-party experience over a non-alcoholic drink. At first, because Oriane Cornuot already thinks to request a license to offer snacks and refreshments.
