Sweden is a Nordic nation in Northern Europe located between Finland, Denmark and Norway. A nation with hundreds of coastal islands and lakes, vast boreal forests and glacial mountains, it is known as a peaceful country and has the unique difference of not being at war with any country for more than 200 years.

One of the most convincing images that will come to mind when we talk about Sweden is of course the Nobel Prize that Sweden awards to people who make outstanding or groundbreaking contributions in physics, chemistry, medicine and literature on an annual basis.

Sweden is also home to several universities that are not only some of the oldest universities in Europe but also of international reputation and the education offered at these universities has contributed to advances in science and technology in a significant way. Lund University is a university founded in 1425 by the Franciscan order, which makes it one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe.

Lund University is located in Lund, Sweden and is a public research university with campuses in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg and a student body of approximately 44,000 at present. The university offers over 270 courses and many of them are offered in English. 9 the entire bachelor’s degree is offered in streams such as economics and society, art, mathematics and physics. More than a hundred master’s programs are available in areas ranging from economics, management, architecture and design, international studies and social sciences. The School of Economics and Management is particularly highly ranked and offers several popular master’s courses.
Ranked among the 100 best universities in the world in the QS world ranking 2021, the faculty is of very high quality and the faculty student ratio is at a very favorable 1: 9. The university produces a lot of cutting-edge research and the university proudly explains that artificial kidney, ultrasound and Bluetooth are examples. inventions that come from Lund University.

The study costs at Lund University vary between Rs 8 to Rs 12 lakhs per year as tuition fees. The cost of living in Sweden is a bit on the higher side and can cost about 1 lakh Rs per month. However, students can work part-time and can compensate a large part of this cost.

Scholarships are available and they are both meritorious and needs-based scholarships and are funded by Lund University’s global scholarship program aimed at non-EEA students. Programs and country-specific scholarships are also available.

Swedish law makes it possible for non-EU / EEA students who have completed their studies and want to stay in Sweden to get a job that can apply for a residence permit “after studies” when they have graduated. The permit allows students to stay for up to 12 months and look for work in Sweden. The job opportunities are quite good and there is a great demand for jobs in technology, architecture, software development, etc.

Working in Sweden means that a person can use free medical care, sick leave, child care and free education. Parents are also entitled to 18 months’ paid parental leave per child.

The proportion of international students is as high as 60 percent for master’s programs and the students come from different backgrounds and countries all over the world. Students are welcome to bring their spouses / children but there are certain procedures to go through, especially when it comes to insurance. Housing is not available on campus but that should not be a problem as Lund is a small university town and there is plenty of housing in the urban area.

Lund University has one of the largest sports centers in northern Europe and offers weekly classes for activities such as yoga, pilates, aerobics, etc. A well-equipped gym that is open 24 * 7 is one of the main attractions. There are a number of university sports teams and associations in sports such as football, cricket, baseball, tennis, swimming, etc.
