Benfica 🆚 Portimonense | Portugal Day, Futsal and Luz 💥

Sugar Mizzy October 3, 2021

Gcame as a surprise at Estádio da Luz. Benfica, the undefeated leader and 100% victorious in the League, just defeated Barcelona, lost 1-0 at home to Portimonense. The guardian of the Algarve. Samuel Portugal, was the great figure of the challenge, with a spectacular performance, particularly in the first part. Benfica continued to create opportunities in the second stage Lucas Possignolo took advantage of one of the rare rises in the Algarve and headed in the decisive goal, which was also Portimonense’s first victory in the field of one of the “big three”.

Samuel spoils the “eagle’s” plans

Incredible first part in Luz, by amount of preference for Benfica and for the display of Samuel Portugal in the goal of Portimonense. The “incarnates” attacked a lot, shot 12 times, six squared, and the Brazilian keeper stopped everything, the equivalent of two “made” goals. Five of those six saves came with shots already in the penalty area, and less than eight meters, so Samuel came to rest as featured MVP, with an extraordinary rating of 8.7. This is the story of the first 45 minutes, which saw a Benfica with great ease entering the opposite area (15 actions).

In the complementary stage, Benfica continued to rule the game, attacking, creating opportunities, but the finishing was bad, or else the Algarvians – Fali Candé cut, on the line, a goal almost made by Otamendi – they avoided the goal of the home team, giving the idea that, even if they were playing for two hours, Jorge Jesus’ team would not be able to score. And they didn’t even score, with Benfica now just one point ahead of Porto and Sporting.

The MVP GoalPoint👑

What a first part! A thunderous display by Samuel Portugal in the first 45 minutes prevented Benfica from scoring, despite the many occasions occasions. No second half, the merit goes to the Algarve team, because at this stage, the Brazilian did not intervene. However, the mission was accomplished and the goalkeeper of Portimonense, as no one took the distinction of MVP, with a GoalPoint ranking in 8.6. There were six saves, five with shots in their penalty area and less than eight meters away.

⚠️ AMAZING ⚠️

In just 45 minutes, Samuel Portugal avoided 2.8 goals in Luz, taking into account the expected save of each shot

Reviews from others 🔺🔻

Benfica Highlights

Alex Grimaldo 7.3 – A catalyst for attacking football from the left. The full-back was the best for Benfica in this match, ending the game with the maximum number of leftovers (six, four from outside the area), two framed, one flagrant occasion created and five crosses. But in the area there was no correspondence from the Benfica attackers.

Jan Vertonghen 7.1 – Solid game by the Belgian, especially in the air, having won the five defensive aerial duels in which he participated. He also had three tackles and as many interceptions, also shining on the pass, with nine approximates, maximum of the meeting.

Nicolas Otamendi 7.1 – Benfica attacked the whole game, but the lack of effectiveness explains the fact that the three best ratings of the “eagles” belong to defenders. Even they attacked a lot, like Otamendi, who ended up with four shots, two squared, and saw Fali Candé take one of his shots over the goal line. The Argentine was the third Benfica player with more actions in the opposite area (7) and won seven of eight aerial duels.

Rafa Silva 6.6 – The winger deserved more, as he ran kilometers and ended up with very good numbers, but with a less exuberant rating due to a flagrant wasted opportunity (great defense by Samuel). Rafa had an incredible 17 ball events in the opposite area, nine more than the second highest value, completed seven out of 12 dribbling, made five close drives and three super closes. But there’s more: 11 close passes, created a glaring opportunity in three submission passes, succeeded in three out of six crosses and made 13 valuable offensive passes, seven more than the second highest.

Rafa is already the player with the most effective dribbling (23) in the #LigaBwin 21/22, with 68% effectiveness in relation to#LigaBwin #LigaPortugalBwin #SLBPSC pic.twitter.com/EUUwCPUfRE

Gil Dias 6.6 – He entered the second half, occupying the right-back, and shook up with the game, through several high-quality sprints. The last pass was missing, but his numbers show six valuable offensive passes, seven effective dribbles in ten and seven approximate drives.

João Mário 6.2 – It was noticed, in the speed of its movements, some natural wear, but it is in good plan again. There were seven passes for submission, the maximum of the game, having also completed two of four crosses.

Lucas verisimal 5.8 – The Brazilian’s most discreet game, which even so was close to scoring. At the rear, the highlight goes to three interceptions.

Roman Yaremchuk 5.7 – The Ukrainian was “walled” by the defense of Portimonense, showing himself only when he managed to act in less congested spaces. The pass for the flagrant occasion missed by Rafa was excellent, but the striker himself missed one.

Julian Weigl 5.7 – With less work at the head of the Benfica defense, their work has emptied a little. Yet he completed all 33 passes he made and made four possession recoveries.

Gilberto 5.7 – The Brazilian only did the first part, leaving at half-time for a more assertive Gil Dias to enter the attack. The Brazilian made three valuable offensive passes and other defensive actions in midfield, on the contrary.

Darwin Nunez 4.6 – After the brilliant spot against Barcelona, `the young striker was uninspired against the Algarve, despite having given himself to the fight without any constraints. After two passes for submission, he added eight classes with the ball in the opposite area and 12 approximate passes received, but the lost catch ended up throwing him into the tail of the ratings.

Portimonense Highlights

Pedro Sa 7.2 – Huge defensive midfield game. Pedro Sá won the four aerial duels he played in and around 17 defensive actions, with eight tackles being an absolute highlight.

Pedrão 6.9 – The central was intractable, with 14 defensive actions, namely eight interceptions, which were fundamental to stop the last “red” pass.

Lucas possignolo 6.5 – The Brazilian central decided the match, having been the author of the goal, the only one in the light. At the rear he made three interceptions and five reliefs.
