Thanks to a 5-4 win after a penalty shoot-out in Geneva, EV Zug took over the top of the table on Friday from the play-free EHC Biel. However, the Zealanders played one game less when they were one point behind. In the first direct duel of this season, coach Antti Törmänen’s team can recapture the leadership throne at home.
EVZ and EHCB with sagging
Both teams started the season. In the meantime, there was a hangover at both Zug and Biel. The Central Swiss, who had celebrated 6 wins in a row at the beginning, returned after 3 defeats with successes against Langnau and Geneva back on the road to success.
At the beginning, the Bielers lined up 8 wins in a row, narrowly missed the one from Geneva and the opening record in the last two games against Langau and Ambri as a loser from the ice. In terms of points per game, the ZSC Lions have now overtaken Zug and Biel.
Here you can find interesting information about the top fight on Saturday:
- With 35 goals each, the EVZ and the EHCB die most productive offensive series the league.
- Biel is less dependent on its foreigners. Around three quarters of the goals are due to the Swiss players around top scorer Damien Brunner. At Zug, the Swede Niklas Hansson and Co. were responsible for 45 percent of the hits.
- While the people of Zug talk about the best outnumbered game in the league, Biel clearly has the most penalty minutes with 169.
- Last season, move 3 of 4 decided Direct encounters for themselves, twice they prevailed abroad.
