Study music to be able to teach it
They are six, since September, to have inaugurated the new training offered jointly by the University of Luxembourg and the Music Conservatories of Esch, Luxembourg and Ettelbruck. A bachelor’s degree in music education in three years, which has the ambition of the former teachers of tomorrow.
“We presented the training in May, with the Minister of National Education, Claude Meisch. This explains the limited number of students for this first promotion, ”explains Eric Falchero, deputy program director. The applicants were, but the admission criteria received by the teaching team limited the possibilities. Indeed, a “1st Prize” diploma in instrument, singing or music theory was an essential prerequisite.
Two thirds of individual lessons are given at the Uni and the other third represent courses in the country’s conservatories. “More and more young people are enrolling in music schools,” notes Eric Falchero. The transfer of musical knowledge is therefore at the center of this training, especially since music theory teachers will soon be rare.
