Once again about the Sopranos, aliens, ghosts and Russian stand-up: what to watch on the Internet in October

The young Tony is played by Michael Gandolfini, son of the late James Gandolfini, who played the boss of the Sopranos in the original series.

The Sopranos’ prequel, Jake Gyllenhaal’s benefit performance, the return of horror from the nineties, Sam Neal versus aliens – and this is not all that provides streaming platforms in it.

Guilty (Guilty)

In the remake of the Danish film of the same name, Jake Gyllenhaal plays the rescue service, who, among the night dispatcher, receives a call from a kidnapped woman and must help her without leaving his workplace. This hermetic thriller is notable for the fact that the second and third (after Gyllenhaal) were directed by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”, “Lefty”) and screenwriter Nick Picolatto.

For the latter, Guilty is a great opportunity to rehabilitate himself after the disastrous third season of True Detective.

Cleaning Lady: The Story of a Single Mother (The Maid)

Alex is a victim of domestic violence who flees her ex-boyfriend in search of a better life. According to the program, she receives a small room for living, but she is in her arms, and there is still no place to work. Putting aside dreams of a writing career, Alex gets a job as a cleaner.

Looking ahead, let’s say that everything obviously worked out for Alex, since the series is based on Stephanie Land’s memoirs, which became a bestseller according to The New York Times.

Multiple Newark Saints (Many Newark Saints)

The long-awaited holiday is coming on the street of the Sopranos clan fans – the prequel to the story of the quivering mafioso Tony Soprano is finally coming out, and immediately online. The action of the year is 1967 and will revolve around the confrontation between Italian and African American gangs. The role of young Tony is played by James Gandolfini’s son Michael.

My mom’s penguins

Gosha (Makar Khlebnikov) has real holy parents (Alexei Agranovich and Alexandra Ursulyak), ready to adopt all orphans in the world. Three adopted children already live in the house, a fourth will appear soon. The only problem is that mom and dad completely forgot about Gosha, despite the problematic adolescence with all that it implies.

The young man finds a way out on his own – through an amateur club stand-up, which becomes psychotherapy for Gosha, and in many respects a way out of this situation. This is not the first Russian approach to trying to portray the world of stand-up on the screen, but the chance that Natalia Meshchaninova (Heart of the World, Arrhythmia) may well get something sensible.

Ghosts (Ghosts)

A remake of the British TV series of the same name two years ago opens the October TV series, in some way timed to coincide with Halloween. In this case, the paranormal guests experienced a comedy case – stories about two young people who decided to open a motel in an old house.

During the repair, the girl Sam slips and bangs her head hard, after which she shows that she can speak with spirits.

One of us lies (One of us lies)

The beginning of this story is reminiscent of the iconic Breakfast Club – which eventually turns into Murder on the Orient Express.

Under suspicion, of course, are his “cellmates” who are forced to conduct their own investigation, in parallel with the police. A screen adaptation of the teenage bestseller of the same name by Karen M. McManus.

Around the world in 80 days (Around the world in 80 days)

There is a feeling that the film adaptations of this immortal novel by Jules Verne are released in films and on television every year (sometimes, if you’re lucky, even two at a time – along with the cartoon).

However, this time I would like to draw attention to the adaptation – due to the fact that the main role here is the magnificent David Tennant. The role of the adventurer Philleas Fogh is, to be sure, not a bad warm-up before the role of Alexander Litvinenko, to which David signed up just the other day.

Breaking (Dopesick)

A school doctor from a small mining town in Virginia (Michael Keaton), stepping in for the health of his charges, finds himself face to face in confrontation with pharmaceutical giants profiting from opioid addiction.

This mini-series is tipped to be the favorites of the next “awards season” not only because of the catchy title, but also due to the fact that it was staged based on a high-profile journalistic investigation. Who knows, maybe a new “Wiretapping” awaits us.

Female praying mantis

Russian streaming attempts to create flamboyant antiheroes – in this case, based on the French TV series Praying Mantis. Zhanna Dronova (Irina Rozanova) is serving a prison sentence for numerous murders of bad men.

One day, an imitator of Jeanne appears in the wild and she has to cooperate with the investigation in the capture, and at the same time instruct the true drinking police son on the path.

Guilty side (Guilty side)

October 14, Paramount +, (in Russia – Amediatek)

Journalist Beth Burgess (Kate Beckinsale) wants to revive her career, taking on the investigation of the murder of her own husband by a young mother. The accused claims that she did not kill anyone, and Beth does not even imagine what funny and dangerous difficulties await her in this seemingly ordinary business.

For Kate Beckinsale, this is the second comeback project in a year after the unsuccessful “Explosive Blonde”. I would like to believe that this series will be more successful for a wonderful actress.

I know what you did last summer (I know what you did last summer)

October 15, Amazon Prime

The return of the popular franchises of the nineties in the long-playing format continues. As we remember, last summer, teenagers hit a man who is now returning to take revenge. The project is supported by the fact that the producer and director of the pilot episode was the author of “Saw” and “Astral” James Wang.

Invasion (Invasion)

From the title, it’s easy to guess that another high-budget fantasy about an alien invasion awaits us. This time, to deal with what the aliens still want from us, there will be several heroes in different parts of the planet. The showrunner of the project was the screenwriter of several films about the X-Men Simon Kinberg, one of the main roles was played by the magnificent Sam Neal.

Army of Thieves (Army of Thieves)

Before Zak Snyder’s Army of the Dead rumbled, Netflix is already releasing the first spinoff of this zombie opera. It will focus on the character of Matthias Schweighöfer – a thief named Ludwig Dieter. The leading actor also directed the film, which takes place at the very beginning of the zombie epidemic.
