Matthieu Chalmé : “On a eu la chance à Bordeaux d’avoir eu deux belles équipes qui ont gagné deux titres mérités, avec du beau jeu, du spectacle, et des groupes avec une forte cohésion”
On France Bleu Gironde, Matthieu Chalmé answered the question of whether there was a well-identified style of play for the Girondins de Bordeaux, in their history. The current coach of the Bordeaux reserve alludes to the two French Champion teams in 99 and 2009.
“99 and 2009, they were two forward teams, very technical, with quality players. I had the chance to train with them in 1999 regularly, I experienced 2009 on the ground… There was a strong cohesion of the group outside, and on the ground it is felt enormously. The public had two great forward teams, who were trying to engage the game, to create chances, to quit taking goals as well. We have often scored more than the opponent, and that’s what this Bordeaux audience liked, beyond the fighting spirit and the desire to win. They were two groups of competitors. We are united for life by this title of 2009, and it is always a pleasure to meet again because we all got along well. It’s the same with the group of 99. We were lucky in Bordeaux to have had two great teams who won two deserved titles, with good play, spectacle, and groups with strong cohesion. We took pleasure in meeting each other in the morning in training, and that is a sign that never fails ”.
