Luxembourg. Cross-border workers will not have to pay more taxes: what you need to know

The fall was eventful for the cross-border workers of Lorraine working in Luxembourg. Among them, some had had the bad surprise to see their taxes increase.
A news which had reacted the main concerned as the elected officials of the region. So much so that some have caused the problem at the source: directly to the French government.
The government announces that residents of France receiving certain income from Luxembourg sources exceptionally request, for the taxation of their income for 2020 and 2021, the application of the provisions of the old tax convention relating to the elimination of double taxation.
A new calculation in the coming days
Besides the mayor of Metz (Moselle) François Grosdidier, the deputy for Meurthe-et-Moselle, Xavier Paluszkiewicz, has stepped up to the plate. In a social media post, he says it has paid off.
The deputy specifies that he met the director of the Departmental Directorate of Public Finance of the department, senior officials of the tax administration in Bercy but also three ministers: Bruno Le Maire, of the Economy, Finance and Recovery ; Olivier Dussopt, delegate in charge of public accounts as well as Clément Beaune, Secretary of State for European Affairs.

And after these multiple discussions, “the government has just announced new tax calculation methods for households receiving both French-source income and Luxembourg-source income, ”writes Xavier Paluszkiewicz.
In addition, an additional assessment will be carried out by the government to see the impact of the change in the method of eliminating double taxation provided for by the tax treaty.
The households concerned will soon have a press release
In the meantime, the elected representative of Meurthe-et-Moelle specifies that the households likely to request the application of the provisions of the old convention.
In the coming days, the General Directorate of Public Finances will communicate to specify the procedures and modalities of the online rectification service of the income tax 2020 for the households concerned.
