Hallwang is committed to helping refugees
Social
Hallwang (Flachgau) is now increasingly committed to taking in refugees. With a corresponding resolution, the Flachgau municipality has turned to the federal government, the Salzburg provincial government and the Austrian association of municipalities.
It refers to dying – as it is said – unworthy conditions in the refugee camps on the Greek islands. It IS called for to work for a fair distribution of refugees in Europe and to participate in a binding quota.
The resolution originally goes back to an initiative of the Hallwanger Greens. Community representative Helga Kronister (Greens) praised the good cooperation with the other parties – everyone supported the resolution.
Green mandatary praises ÖVP mayor
Man is a social community. Refugee families have been admitted repeatedly since 2015 – this has worked very well. They are particularly pleased that the Mayor of Hallwang, Johannes Ebner (ÖVP), is non-partisan and humanitarian, said Kronister. Ebner often advocated his asylum policy as the criticized ÖVP federal party chairman, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.
Mayor Johannes Ebner emphasizes that this resolution has nothing to do with party politics. “The government’s basic statement about the best local help is correct. Nevertheless, Austria is constantly taking in refugees. We have a lot of asylum applications – and families are there too, dying for protection and also looking for a new home. And it is precisely for this purpose that it makes sense for municipalities to provide places for individual families, ”says Ebner.
“Do other communities want too”
Now one hopes that the resolution does not end up in a drawer. SHE should stimulate discussion and also add other communities to follow the same path as the Hallwanger mayor.
