Basketball, Serie A: Treviso wins the derby with Venice and remains at the top, Sassari ko in Brindisi

Sugar Mizzy October 2, 2021

ROME – Treviso conquers the solitary top of the standings, at least for one night. NutriBullet wins the derby against Venice 80-76 and, taking advantage of Sassari’s knockout in Brindisi, remains alone with full points, waiting for the matches scheduled for Sunday.

Treviso bends Venice

Thanks to the tears in the first and third period, Treviso beats Reyer 80-76, bringing in double figures as many as five elements and showing a decisive domination under the basket (41-30 the calculation of rebounds in favor of the hosts). Menetti’s team immediately presses on the accelerator and in the opening fraction escapes with a double-digit advantage (25-15). In the second quarter, however, Umana’s reaction arrives on time and raises the defensive intensity, concedes only 8 points to NutriBullet and returns to the locker room with just two lengths of delay (33-31). The challenge proceeds with alternating current and upon returning to the parquet it is again Treviso to play the charge, with a lunge that is worth +11 (57-46). The race seems to be firmly in the hands of Menetti’s men, who in the last period also stretch to +17 (69-52), the orogranata, however, make up for it with a convinced reaction in the final five minutes. The epilogue of the challenge is point to point, but Akele and Russell do not tremble from the line and give the success to Treviso.

Sassari ko in Brindisi

Dragged by a super Gaspardo (29 points), Brindisi leaves behind the defeat of Trieste by imposing 89-80 on Sassari. The first quarter sees the hosts more reactive and inspired: Vitucci’s team is fluid in attack and easily finds the way to the basket (30-23). In the second period the pace slows down, but the Happy Casa manages to increase the gap and goes to the long interval with a double-digit advantage (52-41), thanks to Chappell’s running shot. In the third fraction Vitucci’s men control the match with personality and keep ten points of margin (67-57). Dinamo tries to make the maximum effort to get back into the race in the middle of the last quarter and manages to get close to 76-72, when there are still almost four minutes to go until the siren. Gaspardo, however, gets back into the chair and, thanks to a dunk and a triple in suspension, pushes Sassari back and further embellishes an already extraordinary race.
