The project choir from the Zollernalbkreis sings in Salzburg: It just doesn’t work without a concert – Meßstetten & Großer Heuberg
Rehearsals yes, concert no – Cordula Bieber, choir musician from Oberdigisheim, can no longer accept that. SHE has launched a project choir that WILL NOT leave it at rehearsals alone.

Meßstetten-Oberdigisheim. Choir rehearsals with no prospect of a public performance, it’s like practicing without playing on the weekend. In the long run, Cordula Bieber knows, that doesn’t work: there is no tension, you sing at random, and at some point the singers get fed up and go off the beaten track. A concert is a must.
But how do you want to give a concert if the Corona ordinances still do not provide for choir concerts in closed rooms? Bieber, director of the Obernheimer Männergesangverein Harmonie and the Geislinger Eintracht, has found a way out of the straitjacket that is completely in accordance with the law, which actually makes sense, even if not after miles: If you can’t sing in Germany, then you just go to friends abroad, wherever it is possible. The inspiration came to her in the Salzburg Cathedral, where the huge gallery immediately appeared to her as a suitable setting for a performance.
Perform in Salzburg Cathedral? A sporting goal; everyone could come! Cordula Bieber tried her luck anyway, and her courage paid off: The cathedral secretariat said yes: “Come on May 1st, 20!” Unfortunately that didn’t work; As Cordula Bieber found out in the travel agency, it was impossible to book accommodations for 85 singers on May Day. As an alternative, there was the Ascension weekend, the cathedral music director gave the green light – and once again Fortuna meant well with Cordula Bieber: There was the opportunity to stay in the seminary, centrally located and opposite Mozart’s Salzburg residence.
Such a project will also be financed; Cordula Bieber turned to the Federal Music Association of Choirs and Orchestra (BMCO) and promptly received the commitment to impulse project funding – choral singing in rural areas is currently not easy and needs start-up funding for the restart after the comatose corona months. A generous sponsor was also found in the following Tieringen. There will also be a little pleasure in Salzburg: city tours through the beautiful city and two dinners in renowned brewery restaurants.
Before reaching Mozart’s city, it’s Beuron’s turn
The organizational base is in place – all that’s missing is the music. Cordula Bieber carefully selected a work for her project choir that is not riddled with extreme difficulties, namely “Messe brève No. 7” by Charles Gounod, a roughly quarter-hour work, the individual parts of which are interspersed in the liturgy of a mass – after that there is still a need after a lookup, Mozart’s “Ave verum” or a sacred work by John Rutter could be considered. The Sunday service on May 29th, the day of departure, will be sung; the arrival takes place on Friday. If Corona allows, the Salzburg concert WILL be preceded by one in the Beuron Abbey Church two weeks in advance – the BMCO wishes that the home region also benefits from its funding.
And who is singing? Cordula Bieber can already count on the current 40 votes from Obernheim and Geislingen. Her “ImpulsStartChor 2022” shouldn’t be smaller either; The two coaches that go to Salzburg have space for over 100 singers – or for “accompanying staff”, spouses or silent friends of choral music. You can register until November 1st.
n Rehearsals take place twice a month between December and May in the club rooms of the two choral societies, alternately on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Interested parties can contact us on 07436 or via the email address ac. [email protected].
