The 150th anniversary of the line from Vienna to Prague will be celebrated in Tábor, and a steam locomotive will also run
The first Saturday in October will be a big celebration in Tábor. From 9 am to 4 pm, the local train station will celebrate 150 years of the Vienna – Tábor – Prague railway connection. The event was named “Tábor with steam” and just riding a steam locomotive will still be an attraction.
Visitors can take the steam locomotive “Čtyřkolák” (434.2186) from Tábor to Chýn and back also between Tábor and Božejovice, and tickets can be purchased in the Czech Railways e-shop. In addition to steam locomotives, visitors can take a ride on the historic M 240.028 “Duck” motor car. This car will travel from Tábor to Milevsko and back and also on the route Tábor – Chotoviny.
Visitors to Saturday’s celebrations can also look forward to a rich accompanying program. For example, an exhibition of locomotives and cars awaits, including Křižík’s “Elinka” car or “Scooter” electric locomotives. There will also be a car of President Edvard Beneš, a model of a steam locomotive with a flasinet, an exhibition of Velorex, a historic fire engine or an exhibition on the history of the railway, and those interested can also see the model track in a draw in Tábor. I will also miss a musical performance, so the Švejk-band will take care of the entertainment.
“Elink”, “Scooter” and the president’s car were lent by the National Technical Museum.
150 years of the Vienna – Tábor – Prague line
The first train arrived from Vienna to Prague on December 14, 1871. This connection brought nine passengers together to the then František Josef railway station in Prague. At that time, about 500 of these long tracks were nicknamed the “princely track,” because there were a number of important nobles at the time, including Schwarzenbergs. Cell
