In the Jiřická bend, the drivers ended up in the field, after the road workers will be repaired, it will be safer
A full flatbed of car parts was collected by road workers during the final cleaning of the building from the vicinity of the so-called Jiřická bend, which has so far been one of the most dangerous road sections in the Czech Republic. Stay there after the numerous accidents that have happened to No Fifty in the last year alone. But that is a thing of the past, since June road workers have been redesigning the section between Jiřice and Benátky nad Jizerou so that it is safer, it was put into full operation this afternoon.
Drivers under Jiřice crashed mainly during rain or snow, when the road was wet, especially those to which they were passing for the first time and did not know that it was carrying one of the curves. In bad weather, there are several accidents a month. In addition to the tow truck, a local farmer usually helped to rescue sunken cars with a tractor. Due to frequent accidents, the turn also has its own fan page on Facebook.
In addition to the non-adaptation of driving behind frequent caroms, there was also the construction of the bend itself, so local people and drivers have been calling for its modification for many years.
“Historically, this section consisted of two arches, which was confusing for drivers. We replaced them with a uniform arch and at the same time we changed the inclination of the roads, “said the director of the Regional Administration and Road Maintenance of the Central Bohemian Region (KSÚS), Jan Lichtneger.
“There was a shift inside the arch, up to ten meters, two sharp arches were replaced by a smooth one,” says Miroslav Kunt, project team leader. “Of course we tried to make a new turn and I can say that if the drivers behave the way the traffic signs are correct, it is completely reliable,” Kunt said.
In addition, due to modifications, the travel speed must initially be limited from 50 to 80 due to the hour for many years.
In total, the region draws investments of 13 million crowns into the transformation, while the costs of covering the subsidy from the European Union.
During the final cleaning of the building, road workers collected a full flatbed of car parts from the area.
Already on Friday afternoon, the traffic lights will disappear from the places, which due to the construction controlled the traffic by shuttle. The queues of waiting cars should also disappear. However, the drivers will drive more slowly for a few more days, because the road workers have still started to repair the rest of the road surface to the village of Jiřice.
“When we are already working here, we want to unify the road surface up to the village,” first Martin Kupka (ODS), Deputy Governor for Road Transport.
In the following period, the Central Bohemian Governor’s Office wants to remove other places and sections in the region that can be seen as high-risk or with a frequent occurrence of traffic accidents. He has 25 to 30 million crowns to release for them.
