End of quarantine on arrival in Portugal “is precipitated”
The president of the National Association of Public Health Doctors says that the end of the imposition of prophylactic isolation on those who travel to Portugal is “hasty”.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said this Friday that whoever travels to Portugal is no longer obliged to a 14-day quarantine.
Entering Portugal by air implies presenting the certificate or negative test to Covid-19.
AN Renaissance, Gustavo Tato Borges defends the maintenance of the measure, which he says is an “advantage of public health”.
“Even having almost 85% of the population vaccinated, we have a part that is fragile and we still have unvaccinated children at risk of developing a disease”, he explains.
The expert says that there is no balance between Health, Economy and Tourism, “the scale weighed more for Economy and Tourism” and not for Health.
Gustavo Tato Borges recalls that the negative test is just “a photograph of the moment the sample is taken”.
“After a few days, I can give a positive result, if in the previous 14 days there is any kind of risky contact”, he recalls.
“Having a negative test is excellent, but to wait a few days and, before the end of that period, go back to having a test, it would always be more advantageous”, he also points out, to Renaissance.
Asked about a possible resumption of these measures, due to the circulation of a new variant, now in the winter period, the president of the National Association of Doctors of Public Health says that Portugal “has to be ready to go back.”
“We must resume any measure that it takes to protect the population, even if it means closing a sector of the economy or even another confinement. Portugal cannot say that it will never go back on the measures now in force”, he defends.
