Basketball: budget records for Asvel and Monaco in Elite

Lyon-Villeurbanne and Monaco are posting record Elite budgets this season, the National Basketball League (LNB) said on Friday, publishing the clubs’ budgets and projected payrolls.
Asvel, the reigning double French champion, has the biggest budget with 15.07 million euros, just ahead of the Principality’s club, which almost doubled theirs from 7.5 million EUR in 2020-2021 at 14.12 M EUR this season.
The “Roca Team”, on the other hand, has the highest payroll (6.7 M EUR, + 150%) ahead of its rival from Rhone (3.9 M EUR).
Overall, the average budget of the Elite is on the rise (+ 16%), as the average wage bill (+ 20%), compared to last season, affected by the health crisis. In ProB too, budgets and payrolls attracted (+ 14% and + 17%).
According to the LNB, these budgets “even exceed the record amounts for the 2019-2020 season”, which could not be completed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This general increase “is largely explained by the unprecedented support of the State for the professional sports sector as well as the solidarity of subscribers and private partners of the clubs during the 2020-2021 season”, specifies the League , as the Elite Championship kicks off Friday night.
In ProB, Chalon-sur-Saône, relegated this season, and the budget (5 M EUR) the payroll (1.4 M EUR) the most important.
