Basket. JDA Dijon with an increasing budget, that of Monaco soars
The DNCCGCP press release
After a 2020-2021 season heavily impacted by the health crisis, the 2021-2022 average budgets of the two divisions, 6.3M euros in Betclic ELITE (+ 16%) and 2.4M euros in PRO B (+ 14%) , is on the rise and even the record amounts of the 2019-2020 season. The increase in the average Betclic ELITE budget compared to the previous season is mainly driven by the two clubs competing in the Euroleague this season, LDLC Asvel and AS Monaco Basket, which have the two largest budgets in the history of the LNB , i.e. € 15.1 million (+ 27%) and € 14.1 million (+ 87%) respectively. It should be noted that, even without these two clubs, the division would have presented an increase in its average budget.
The general increase in club budgets and payrolls for the 2021-2022 season compared to the previous season, in a difficult and uncertain economic context for several sectors, is largely explained by the unprecedented support of the State to the professional sport sector, as well as to the solidarity of subscribers and private partners of the clubs during the 2020-2021 season. Without these two fundamental supports, certain clubs would have been confronted with serious financial difficulties, and the professional basket would not have been able to continue its positive dynamics on the financial plan. Thus, the professional clubs have been able to preserve their solid financial situations and can have sporting ambitions on the rise again for this new season.
