Asvel and Monaco post record budgets for the 2021-2022 Betclic Elite season
Monaco increases its payroll by 150%
In terms of the budget, Asvel remains No. 1 with a little more than 15 million euros (against 11.8 the previous season and especially a little less than 12 million in 2019-2020, which then the record). But Monaco now follows with a budget of 14.1 million euros, while the Principality’s club only had 7.5 last year. That is an increase of 87%.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez also jumped, from 4.7 to 7.8 million euros in budget, inflated by new American investors, and found itself the third most endowed club. Three teams, on the other hand, saw their numbers drop: Le Portel (-5%), Orléans (-3%) and Cholet (-1%).
As regards the payroll, AS Monaco is a hit, with 6.7 million euros (including 1.3 for Mike James alone). Last year she only had 2.6 million. The ASM thus increased its payroll by 150% and reported the Asvel quite far, since it presents 3.9 million euros (against 3.5 last year). In third position are the Metropolitans 92 with 2.6 million.
State support, solidarity of subscribers and partners
The LNB said that Betclic Elite clubs suffered from the health crisis last year. In 2020-2021, average budgets had fallen by 7%. This season, on the contrary, they are on the rise, by 16%. The average wage bill has increased by 20% compared to the previous season.
The League explained that these figures were largely due ” the unprecedented state support for the professional sport sector as well as the solidarity of subscribers and private partners of clubs during the 2020-2021 season “.
In Pro B, which begins on October 15, Chalon-sur-Saône, relegated this season, has the highest budget (5 million euros) and payroll (1.4 million).
