The Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have prepared proposals to increase duties on some goods imported from the EU. They write about it “Vedomosti” citing two sources close to federal officials.
The increase in duties may affect some types of wines, beer, eau de toilette, perfumes, decorative cosmetics and other goods. At the same time, the amount of new duties has not yet been determined, the rates can be up to prohibitive.
According to the sources of the publication, such measures may be a response to the EU restrictions on the import of metallurgical products introduced in 2018 and extended in June. A spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed to the publication that due to the extension of restrictions on steel imports to the EU, Russia has the right to suspend concessions for European countries in an amount equivalent to a review by Russian exporters. It is noted that such a measure complies with the WTO rules.
Previously reportedthat the Ministry of Industry and Trade supported the preservation of zero duties on the import of electric vehicles to Russia.
