the Red Cross project ends
Genoa – Thursday 30th September 2021, as scheduled, ended on free tampons project of the Italian Red Cross, with an area dedicated to Genova Principe station. Started in mid-April in the FS stations of Rome Termini And milan Central, this initiative then continued (from last May) in ten other Italian cities (Bari, Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Palermo, Reggio Calabria, Turin, Venice, Genoa and Naples), again thanks to collaboration of the FS Italiane group. In the Ligurian capital, for months the Genoese carried out the tests at the Principe station. The Genoese garrison of the Red Cross carried out a average of 200/300 tests per day.
The project, whose deadline was already set for the start of 30 September, has seen hundreds of thousands of tests. Over 1200 volunteers and 325 health workers guaranteed a capillary mass screening that reached across the population, in particular the less affluent groups. The costs were borne by the Italian Red Cross thanks to the contribution of the European Commission (Directorate General for Health and Food Safety) which, through an agreement with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, has allocated important resources to screening activities. in seven European countries (Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain) carried out by the respective National Red Cross Societies.
“Once again the international network of the Red Cross – he says Francesco Rocca, president of the Italian Red Cross – has demonstrated his strength and ability to stand alongside the most vulnerable. Through this massive screening at the level, we have offered an additional tool to fight the pandemic and we have also approached all those people who form social marginalization with consequent access to health services. I want to thank the hundreds of Volunteers and Operators involved throughout the national territory and the Institutions who made the project possible “.
