Missing or incorrect ballot papers, voters sent away, voting still two hours after the intended closure of the polling stations, while the first extrapolation was already running – the list of mishaps in the Berlin election is long. As a consequence, the election supervisor is already available for office. But is that enough or should the Berlin election be repeated in full?
So far, in Berlin politics, as well as the election lines, it has not been assumed that the election of the Bundestag or MPs as a whole has to be repeated.
However, a new election could become necessary in individual constituencies or districts if irregularities have had a “mandate-relevant” effect.
This could especially be the case with tight results, if many voters were able to vote correctly. “If the gap is smaller than the number of wrong ballots, then we have to post-vote,” said the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Returning Officer, Rolfdieter Bohm, giving an example.
It is not yet clear whether that was the case. But what did you say In your opinion, should the election be repeated in at least some constituencies? Vote now!
