San Marino. I continue the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
Yesterday, Wednesday 30th, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe approved numerous resolutions resulting from a detailed and in-depth work on an emergency and priority issue, namely that of heating and its effects on mankind.
Recommendations were therefore discussed and approved on the climate crisis and the state of, on the environment and human rights regarding the right to a safe, healthy and sustainable environment, on the fight against inequalities, on the effects of climate with respect to migration, and on scientific research policies and environmental protection. Focused on this country, the intervention of the President of the Republic of Hungary János der, who pointed out the results such as this country and the future challenges of international life to jeopardize the continuation of life itself on planet earth. This morning, on the other hand, the situation in Afghanistan was addressed, in particular with regard to the consequences for Europe and the region, focusing on humanitarian aid, respect for human rights and in particular those of women, taking into account both the need for having to discuss these needs with the Taliban, and the need not to grant a status of status in international institutions until minimum conditions and rights are recognized. It was then the turn of the intervention in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for European affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nikola Dimitrov, who complained about the state of suspension of his country’s application for membership of the European Union. It was forwarded before Croatia and yet Croatia ended the journey 8 years ago, while North Macedonia has yet to start it. Dimitrov concluded the speech by expressing concern that if the peoples of the Balkans lose confidence in a future in Europe, Europe risks losing this region and expressing the hope for the next summit in Slovenia that a strong signal will come against this. derives from European leaders. This hope was re-launched by many interventions in plenary. Another topical debate was devoted to the role that the Council of Europe can play in relation to the Western Balkans taking into account the democratic challenges and European aspirations of that area. Lastly, two other resolutions were addressed with an emergency procedure, namely the increased migratory pressure on the borders of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland from Belarus and the second additional protocol to the Cybercrime Convention.
