The ski season in Sölden, Austria, will start in a few weeks (23/24 October). But our ski neighbors are already banging: Karl Schmidhofer, President of the Austrian Ski Association, is stepping down after only three months! The official announced this on Thursday.
The reason for Schmidhofer’s resignation – uncle of ski ace Nicole Schmidhofer and ex-ÖVP member – has nothing to do with the conditions in the ski association. Rather, it is a “severe blow in the family” that leaves him with “no other choice”.
Son suffered a stroke
Schmidhofer’s 35-year-old son suffered a stroke. “I now want to devote all my energy to the family”. Schmidhofer’s son became a father shortly after his stroke.
The decision to resign was anything but easy for him. Now the ÖSV has to find a successor. Vice-President Roswitha Stadlober will take over the business on an interim basis. (wst)
