On to Taxflash T20007 Regarding the public consultation on the new draft law on the new withholding tax system for Swedish dividend payments, the Swedish government has on 20 September 2021 presented its budget bill for 2022, which provides the following updates regarding the implementation of the new law.

If the proposal is approved, it is intended:

  • To enter into force on 1 July 2023 for the articles on authorized intermediaries and on 1 January 2024 for the remaining provisions. and

  • Applies to dividends paid after December 31, 2023; and

  • The current maximum withholding tax remains unchanged at 30%.
