Lithuania buys German automatic rifles: it will spend 19 million euros
According to her, on Thursday, the Defense Resources Agency signed an agreement with the German company Heckler & Koch GmbH on the acquisition of these weapons.
“We continue to provide Lithuanian soldiers with modern and reliable armaments, and the technical and tactical features of the G-36 automatic rifle meet the needs of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the need for weapons to be tested in various conditions, both for national and international military operations,” Minister Arvydas Anušauskas.
A new consignment of automatic rifles G-36 will be produced and delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces in 2022-2023, the total value of the contract is about 19 million. euros.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, these weapons are additionally purchased in order to obtain the information available to the Lithuanian Armed Forces and to further develop its news capabilities, as well as to abandon the still used, functionally and morally obsolete small arms systems.
The Minister of National Defense A. Anušauskas informed BNS that the exact amount of weapons to be purchased is not published, as it is a “state secret”.
Currently, the main small arms of the Lithuanian Armed Forces are a 5.56 mm x 45 mm automatic rifle G-36 from the German manufacturer Heckler & Koch GmbH.
