Leverkusen and Frankfurt can cheer | UEFA Europa League
Bayern Leverkusen scored their second victory at Celtic on matchday two and are clearly on course for the knockout round. Eintracht Frankfurt meanwhile got their first three in the group stage at Royal Antwerp.
UEFA.com summarizes the action on Matchday 2.
Celtic – Leverkusen 0-4
The Werkself are continuing their winning streak and celebrating their fourth competitive win in a row. At Celtic, the Leverkusen team initially survived an urgent phase of the Scots, but then got better and better into the game.
Piero Hincapie scored the 1-0 after a mistake in the Celtic defense. A little later, Florian Wirtz made a quick counterattack to make it 2-0. Even after the break, Celtic was initially more offensive, but the goal was made by the guests again: Lucas Alario scored after an hour with a penalty for the preliminary decision. Substitute Amin Adli enjoyed the final score in stoppage time.
Antwerp – Frankfurt 0-1
The game was fast-paced at first and Frankfurt had two good chances to score early on from Martin Hinteregger and Sam Lammers. After both teams slowed down, the encounter became erratic and neither could be offensively dangerous.
In the 90th minute, Jesper Lindstrøm was fouled in the penalty area, the penalty that was due was converted by substitute Gonçalo Paciência confidently and thus made the victory clear.
West Ham – Rapid Vienna 2-0
The Londoners were away from the active team from the start and had already hit the post twice after 27 minutes. A little later, in the 29th minute, Declan Rice scored the well-deserved opening goal after a nice combination via Andriy Yarmolenko and Michail Antonio.
In the second round, the team of coach David Moyes pulled back a little and let the Viennese get better into the game. Despite the larger play, Rapid failed to get dangerously in front of Alphonse Areola’s goal and Saïd Benrahma made it 2-0 just before the end.
Sturm Graz – Eindhoven 1: 4
The team from Styria continues to wait for the first point in the group stage after the second game.
After Ibrahim Sangaré had put the guests in the lead in the first half, Eran Zahavi followed up shortly after the break on the basis of Mario Götze. Jon Stankovic gave the hosts hope with his connecting goal. But dying didn’t last long. Philipp Max and Yorbe Vertessen then make everything clear.
The late yellow-red card against goal scorer Sangaré doesn’t change anything about the clear victory of the Dutch.
