Lyon prances ahead of its group
Two goals and an assist from Karl Toko Ekambi allowed Lyon to win at the expense of Danish club Brondby (3-0), Thursday, and to take a very serious option on first place in Group A, which ‘they occupy with six points taken in two matches. This is particularly important: it directly grants qualification in 8e final without going through dams.
Toko Ekambi gave the advantage to the Rhone by resuming a pass from Paquetà with his head after receiving a center delivered from the left by Thiago Mendes (64e ). He doubled the mark seven minutes later by taking back a center set back from the left wing by Rayan Cherki, deflected by goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, again after an opening by Thiago Mendes (71e ).
Houssem Aouar then increased the score to 3-0 by heading back to a center sent from the right wing by Toko Ekambi (86e ).
Monaco takes a good point in Spain
For its part, Monaco snatched a point from Real Sociedad (1-1) on Thursday but lost first place in Group B to PSV Eindhoven, winner 4-1 in Graz.
After a good start, Monaco scored in the 16e minute, Axel Disasi winning in the air on a corner of Sofiane Diop in front of two defenders for captain to slip the ball between the post and the hands of Alex Remiro.
But after this initial goal, the Monegasques completely disappeared, collapsing under the Basque assaults. Over the minutes, the Basques are made more and more threatening and Monaco has ended up retreating into its camp.
After the locker room (53e ), Alexander Nübel was too short on the recovery of Mikel Merino’s uncrossed header, which allowed Real Sociedad to pick up the score.
But this result confirms the good Monegasque dispositions in September, authors of three victories (against Sturm, Saint-Étienne and in Clermont-Ferrand), a draw and a defeat (in Marseille).
