The homecoming week is in full swing at Gothenburg High School, and the festive festivities that could not be held during the height of the pandemic return again to 2021. Throughout this week, the students have shown their school spirit with their attire and on Friday the week culminates with the football match, royalty of royalty and traditional homecoming dance.
After a two-year break due to Covid, the homecoming parade will return on Friday 1 October. The junior high school and high school students will be fired at 1:30 on Friday for the parade and the pep meeting. The rafts line up at 1:45 and the parade starts at 2:00 at the corner of 16th Street and Avenue G. The parade goes down Avenue G in front of Dudley Elementary and Building Blocks where the weather allows, the kids will go out and see the passing floats.
The parade will meander through the center between the 9th and 10th streets and then go back to school for the pep meeting which starts around 2:30. During the pep meeting, the “winner” of the collection of cookies will be announced and the lucky teacher will get his pie!
The Gothenburg Education Association will host a tailgate party on the football field that starts at 16.30 and the kickoff for the football match when the Swedes welcome Mitchell Tigers is set for 6:00. At the end of the game, the king and queen will be crowned on the football field, and the dance will follow in high school.
