Portugal Ventures has 10 million to invest Sun Boats – Tourism & Leisure
In the last three years, as a result of the first three editions of Call Tourism, Portugal Ventures raised 205 applications and invested 9.5 million euros in 14 tourism projects, including Barcos Sol do Algarve, presented as “the first maritime tourism company in the Algarve operating with a 100% ecological fleet, without carbon transport, in electro-solar vessels that allow comfortable, quiet and, above all, environmentally friendly journeys”.
Now, this is an example of the typology of non-technological projects that a public venture capital company is looking for in the fourth edition of Call Tourism, which is launched tomorrow, September 30, and which aims to “foster entrepreneurship in the tourism sector , in particular, through the financing of non-technological projects, an area that most enjoys the effects of the pandemic”.
In this fourth edition, innovative technological projects that present solutions that improve the efficiency of companies in the tourism sector and their offer of products and services are eligible.
“The focus, however, of this edition is on the search for non-technological projects that present innovative and differentiating concepts for the country’s tourism offer, which contributes to enriching the tourist experience and reinforcing the exclusion of Portugal as a tourist destination”, he explains to Portugal Ventures, in a statement.
Projects that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), solutions that promote the dematerialization of processes and services, recycling, reuse and waste reduction, integration of clean energy, energy efficiency, water efficiency and intelligent mobility will be privileged.
Non-technological projects include innovative hotel and tourist accommodation projects, entertainment activities and tourist experience with exploration of the landscape and cultural heritage, activities for the use of endogenous resources and revitalization of spaces of cultural interest.
In addition to Algarve Sun Boats, Portugal Ventures highlights Hub Hostels and Sleep & Nature as examples of the typology of non-technological projects that it is looking for with the current Call Tourism.
For Pedro de Mello Breyner, Member of the Board of Directors of Portugal Ventures, “This new edition of Call Tourism responds to the need to finance tourism projects, especially non-technological ones, which now want the opportunity to be included in Portugal Ventures’ portfolio and be accompanied in their strategy of growth and expansion of their businesses”, says Pedro de Mello Breyner, member of the administration of the state venture capital.
To mark the launch of the 4th Edition of Call Tourism, an initiative launched in partnership with Turismo de Portugal and Nest – Innovation Center for Tourism, Portugal Ventures will hold a debate tomorrow with the theme “Innovation in Tourism in the post-pandemic “, reproduced on Portugal Ventures’ Youtube Channel, which will have the presence of Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism.
In 2021, this is the second initiative launched by Portugal Ventures for the Tourism sector “in order to finance projects that bring innovation to the sector and place Portugal as one of the most competitive destinations in the world in terms of the country’s tourism offer” .
