Lisbon region registers half of the cases of homeless people
Portugal has more than 8,209 homeless people, an increase of 15% compared to 2019. The Lisbon region has more than half of cases and the highest percentage is registered in the Alentejo, in the towns of Beja and Alvito.

Most homeless people are male, are between 45 and 64 years old they are single, of Portuguese nationality, have basic education and have entered the social insertion income. These are people who have not had a home or a home for at least a year.
As main causes appointed to live in a homeless situation are the dependence on alcohol or drugs, unemployment or precariousness at work and lack of money associated with other reasons.
The Lisbon metropolitan area has more homeless people, with 4,786, with the municipalities of Lisbon, Cascais and Setúbal leading the way.
Below is a metropolitan area of Porto with 1,213 homeless people. The municipalities of Porto, Gaia and Vila do Conde are the most worrying.
Alvito registers 11 homeless people per 100,000 inhabitants and in Beja there are 9. This region of the country with children and young people under 18 years of age.
The survey released reveals that last year 485 people inherited homelessness and got permanent housing. A 39 percent rise faces a 2019.
