Brussels parliament takes step towards more job opportunities for Brussels job seekers in Flanders – Belgium
(Belga) The committee of the Brussels parliament gave the green light on Wednesday for a cooperation agreement with Flanders that should offer job seekers in Brussels more opportunities on the Flemish labor market. This is reported by the Brussels Minister of Employment Bernard Clerfayt (DéFI), who prepared the ordinance on the transposition of the agreement.
The situation has been known for some time. Flanders has a labor shortage, Brussels has a lot of job seekers – according to Minister Clerfayt, this concerns almost 90,000 job seekers. The cooperation agreement should help to tackle this. After all, more Brussels residents will gain access to the Flemish labor market. “Industry has moved away from Brussels and settled in less densely populated areas around the capital, but is still looking for workers, sometimes skilled,” Clerfayt said to the Brussels. In concrete terms, this cooperation agreement will improve the automatic exchange of all vacancies and the VDAB. In the past, only 1,500 vacancies from the VDAB were passed on to Actiris per year, and only for low-skilled workers. The VDAB will also introduce a tailor-made training program for job seekers in Brussels. Drafting both services develop study work together, and they will establish a nature recruting service. “Work is the absolute priority at the restart of the parliamentary year. The recovery is palpable and the number of job vacancies. The inhabitants of Brussels must be able to take advantage of these opportunities. This new cooperation agreement between our two regions is therefore a win-win situation,” concludes the minister. (Belgium)
