Toulouse. Stoned, dangerous for cyclists: this very borrowed ax will change in depth

It was one of the most bumpy roads in Toulouse. Of those that we would like to be able to cycle, but on which we would so far avoid risking ourselves so much vehicles run there quickly and the cycling facilities are minimalist.
Those who engage in it do so at their own risk …
From the metro station, to the railroad
A few hectometers from Balma-Gramont shopping center, the Chemin de Gabardie, a long boulevard of a large kilometer, which stretches from the Balma-Gramont metro station to the railway line, will be completely transformed.
“The road was very deteriorated. The roadway was therefore redone, but we also found that the pedestrian crossings were not secure and that cyclists did not need their place on this axis. We will therefore take advantage of the repair of the roadway to widen the sidewalks and create cycle paths for each direction of traffic. The central part, now concrete, will be vegetated. We hope that with this type of development, people will be encouraged to review their investment methods, ”explains Isabelle Ferrer, mayor of the district.
In connection with the shopping center
The work started at the end of August. It will last 9 months. To pay 1.9 million euros, it is therefore a real redevelopment of this unwelcoming public space that begins.
While the Balma-Gramont shopping center continues to renovate its own public space, before switching its parking to paid mode, this new development must You, the attractiveness of a commercial area of Balma-Gramont very fragmented and improve its accessibility to all modes of travel.
Facilitate access to cyclists
The bet is simple. That motorists who come to consume or work in the Balma-Gramont area become potential cyclists.
However, the lack of harmonization between the development of the various axes linked to the Chemin de Gabardie risks being a brake on this ambition in the short and medium term.
In particular, the lack of real facilities for cyclists on rue André Vasseur, the axis which rests the Chemin de Gabardie in the Croix-Daurade district in Toulouse. A very dangerous axis for any cyclist who uses it.
