Three PH powerlifters pick up medals in Sweden
MANILA, Philippines – Three Filipinos stamped their class in the world championship in powerlifting in powerlifting 2021 in Halmstad, Sweden.
Veronica Ompod led the Philippines’ medal pick with four gold medals in the women’s 43 kg women’s class on Monday.
“Veronica Ompod had an unexpected cruise to four gold medals when all her competitors failed to gain weight in the 43kg women’s junior division,” the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines wrote on its Facebook page. “Regardless, Veronica was the best seed to win the gold over all its competitors based on the official nominations.”
Congratulations to Agustin Lorenzo for winning the silver medal in 74 kg sub-junior men in the WC 2021 in classic powerlifting in Halmstad, Sweden.

Jane Erasmo, who participated in her first international competition, also took home several medals with four bronze in the 47 kg women’s sub-junior class.
“Veronica & Jane arrived in Halmstad just hours before their weigh-in and competition and deprived them of proper rest,” says the association. “Circumstances made it difficult to arrange to come earlier, but the two young lifters still managed to perform well.”
In the men’s 74 kg Sub-Junior event, Agustin Lorenzo took the silver after lifting 147.5 kg on her third attempt.
