Sports, Football | Ståle Solbakken is considering including Sean McDermott on the national team
Ørjan Håskjold Nyland (Bournemouth), Per Kristian Bråtveit (Groningen) and Sten Grytebust (FC Copenhagen) are goalkeepers in the Norwegian squad that will play World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Turkey next month.
National team manager Ståle Solbakken says he had Sean McDermott on the block before the selection.
– Kristiansund’s Sean McDermott was relevant, but I must have been through and violent paper mill. That’s because he’s not been an Irish trooper. Such processes often take a couple of months. It is not certain that he could be taken anyway, but it would clearly be possible to get several months to make it easier, for national team coach Ståle Solbakken during Tuesday’s press conference.
André Hansen suffered an injury in a Rosenborg match last weekend and is out of the question. Rune Almenning Jarstein is not back in action after a tough covid-19 course in the spring.
Norway plays against Turkey away on October 8 and at home against Montenegro three days later.
Solbakken took out the following squad: Ørjan Nyland, Per Kristian Bråtveit, Sten Grytebust, Kristoffer Ajer, Stefan Strandberg, Birger Meling, Marcus Holmgren Pedersen, Fredrik Bjørkan, Stian Gregersen, Marius Lode, Andreas Hanche Olsen, Jonas Svensson, Ruben Gabrielsen, Martin Ødegaard , Moi, Jens Petter Hauge, Patrick Berg, Dennis Johnsen, Morten Thorsby, Mathias Normann, Mats Møller Dæhli, Fredrik Aursnes, Fredrik Midtsjø, Erling Braut Haaland, Veton Berisha, Kristian Thorstvedt and Joshua King.
