Olga Stefanishyna: Ukraine and the EU can strengthen the potential of the Association Agreement
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olga Stefanyshyna checked a meeting in Brussels with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Stefano Sunny, which is going to prepare for the Ukraine-EU Summit on October 12 in Kyiv.
During the meeting, Olga Stefanishyna informed the European team about Ukraine’s progress in achieving the goals of the Association Agreement.
“Ukraine and the EU can strengthen the potential of the Association Agreement. A joint overview of achieving the goals The agreement has identified sectors where we can achieve more, “said Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina.
The official noted significant progress in approximating Ukrainian legislation to the norms of European Union law. In particular, they addressed priority European integration legislative initiatives, were vaguely agreed and approved by the Government to accelerate sectoral integration.
In addition, the parties discussed the possibility of strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of security, secondary, Ukraine’s complement to the initiative of the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU, especially Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).
Olga Stefanishyna agreed with Stefan Preliminary next steps on the joint review of the Agreement after the presentations of internal assessments on the sidelines of the forthcoming Summit. They also discussed political positions on the uncertainty of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation in Crimea, the continuation of the sanctions regime against Russia and joint actions within the Crimean platform.
For his part, the Secretary General of the EEAS commends the Ukrainian presentation of the assessments of the Agreement and the filling of the Vice Prime Minister in further close cooperation and support of European integration reforms in Ukraine.
