Malta to Win First Film Awards to Celebrate the Success of Local Film and Television Artists
The Malta Film Commission this evening launched the first Malta Film Awards which it says will be a celebration of Malta and all those who together make up its film and television industry.
The announcement was made by the Commission this evening, in a video in which the Film Commissioner Johann Grech, the Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo, the Minister for Broadcasting Carmelo Abela as well as the Chief Executive of the Tax Service -Public Broadcasting Mark Sammut.
“Malta is a success story, driven by the ambition and creativity of its people,” said Grech. “The Malta Film Awards will be a celebration of Malta, of those working in the film and television industry throughout its history of film production.”
The first edition of the awards will celebrate the production of films in Malta over the years “while looking to pass the baton on to future generations”, said Grech.
The ceremony will take place in February 2020 at the Mediterranean Conference Center in Valletta.
Submission submissions can be submitted between Wednesday 29 September and Friday 29 October.
Grech said the launch of the awards was another step in the Commission’s mission to create a world-class film industry with local talent as its main force.
Sammut said that like the film industry, broadcasting services have had the same goal of seeing local productions meet higher quality standards and to continuously improve their offering to the public.
In view of this, the Public Broadcasting Service will be joining the Malta Film Commission for the awards.
“Today, the Malta Film Commission and the Public Broadcasting Service are teaming up to give the efforts and creativity of all those who have worked in local television and film, during this a success story, “Sammut said.
