LGV in Toulouse: Georges Méric in disagreement with the distribution of funding
The president of the Haute-Garonne departmental council, Georges Méric, expressed his disagreement with the distribution key for LGV financing, which provides for a contribution from the Department higher than that of Toulouse Métropole.
Surprise this Tuesday at the end of Georges Méric’s press conference during the questioning session. The socialist president of the departmental council of Haute-Garonne is negotiated on the financing of the Bordeaux-Toulouse high-speed line to say his disagreement with the distribution key as, according to him, it was drafted.
Like other representatives of communities, Georges Méric was invited to the prefecture on Sunday evening by the prefect, appointed coordinator of the LGV project, and Carole Delga, president of the Region. And he discovered a few hours earlier that a distribution of the efforts of the communities had already been outlined without his opinion being asked. This distribution, which concerns the 40% of the cost borne by local authorities, would be as follows: 41% of the financing provided by the Region, as Carole Delga had announced on Monday in a joint press release with the prefect, “more than 25% by the Department and 20% by Toulouse Métropole ”, the rest coming from other communities.
A yes but questions
“We find ourselves second financier of the Bordeaux-Toulouse LGV and not Toulouse Métropole. It’s surprising, ”observed Georges Méric for whom the Metropolis is likely to garner more tax revenue and resources in general than the Department. Georges Méric reaffirmed that his community “has always been for the LGV”. And he is preparing to give a favorable opinion on the principle and on the financing company. But in the letter which will formalize his commitment, and which will be signed by the majority group of the Department, he also intends to say that he wants a fixed participation “for the balance of all accounts”, a “realistic” schedule of achievements and fundraising, that he wants to know who will be the pilot of the financing, what will be the governance and which fund will supply the tolls.
Asked about his own financing, he said he was counting on the fiscal dynamism of his community, and therefore self-financing, to supplement an investment that will be spread over “forty years”.
