Flavia Coelho in concert in Toulouse: “Life has resumed, come and support the artists!”
She ignited the scene of Rio Loco in 2019 (replacing the last minute of Neney Cherry), she returns to us at the Metronum, Friday October 1, more radiant than ever! Flavia Coelho is the star of the first Women’s Academy at the Metronum, in Toulouse.
Flavia Coelho, all in blond curls and a dazzling smile, it’s a last swig of sunshine before plunging into the autumnal gray, sumptuous melodies carried by soft and swaying rhythms, arrangements that bridge Brazil yesterday, western pop today and electro tomorrow. Flavia will be the militant and mixed voice of the Women Metronum Academy (September 29-October 2), a festival dedicated to women artists who is particularly close to her heart. Meet.
You have recently declared that you have had the best time of your life!
Of course ! I am alive, I am resuming the tour, I have given more than 800 concerts and I have lived in France for more than ten years. We had a very complicated period, but life is starting up again, the halls are opening again, the concerts are restarting! To the skeptics, I say: “Come to concerts, come back and support the artists! “
Your new album is called “DNA”, or “ADN” in French: what’s in Flavia Coelho’s DNA?
Music ! I am mixed race and I was born in Rio de Janeiro, in a country that is also very mixed. My parents listened to all kinds of music, it was obvious that my songs were going to be nourished by all this diversity. I wonder more and more about my African roots and I think my music will take up these questions.
You live in France but pay particular attention to the political and social situation in your native country …
It is necessary to talk about the things that are wrong, including machismo, homophobia. I love my country but I am afraid for it and although I am in exile I cannot forget it. It is my duty as an artist to tell the widest possible audience what is happening in Brazil, what Bolsonero is doing…
What does this festival, the Women Metronum AcademyYes ?
We believe that society owes a debt to women. We are only talking about fraternity: what about sorority? This festival opens the door to women artists and it is part of an artistic project: I have been accompanying the singer Sopycal for six months and Sônge is Frieda’s mentor. Together, we are working on the place of women in creation and we are proud to present this concert, where we are expecting lots of women … and men! Everyone come !
