Toulouse will pay tribute to the former President of the Republic, Jacques Chirac, by giving his name to a street in the pink city. Two years after the president’s death, the Boulevard des Crêtes, in the eastern district of Jolimont, becomes avenue Jacques Chirac. For the occasion, his daughter, Claude Chirac will be present at the inauguration of the street, this Tuesday September 28 at 3 p.m..

A decision taken by the city council in November 2019

Jacques Chirac, emblematic president of the Fifth Republic, died on September 26, 2019. During the Toulouse town hall council meeting of Friday, October 18, 2019, the wish to give his name was mentioned. Jean-Luc Moudenc began the session with a tribute: “My dear colleagues, before starting with the traditional introductory remarks which will allow each group to express themselves, I would like to invite our assembly to pay tribute to President Jacques Chirac with a minute of silence.”

The decision was recorded in one of the deliberations of the city ​​council of Friday, November 29, 2019 on the denomination of lanes. At the time, the municipal council had chosen Boulevard des Crêtes in the Soupetard-Jolimont district as registered in the deliberation:

Following the death of the former President of the Republic Jacques Chirac, the municipality wishes to name a public place. This tribute is paid to Boulevard des Crêtes by renaming it. I suggest that you give it the following denomination: Avenue Jacques CHIRAC, President of the Republic, 1932 – 2019. Sole article: Considering the favorable opinion of the Advisory Committee on the Denomination of Ways dated October 16, 2019, the Municipal Council adopts the provisions set out above. “
