Vocational European Championships: Salzburgers win big in Graz
“I am extremely pleased with the great performance of Salzburg’s top specialists. They are the international figurehead for our globally recognized vocational training system, which many countries envy us for, ”emphasizes WKS President Peter Buchmüller in a broadcast.
Salzburg specialists successful in professional EM
Great success for the Salzburg participants at the “EuroSkills 2021”, which took place in Graz from September 22nd to 26th: Florian Hiebl from Radstadt won gold in the sales competition, while Stefan Leymüller from Schleedorf won silver in the plastering and dry construction competition. The two graduates of the HTL Hallein, Konstantin Stiborek from Hallein and Jonas Scherthaner from Abtenau, received a “Medallion of Excellence” for their performance in “Mobile Robotics”.
Team Austria wins 33 medals
Buchmüller is particularly pleased that in addition to the Salzburg medals, the entire red-white-red team achieved a record European championship in Graz: the record line-up of 54 young professionals won 11 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals. In addition, four “Medallions for Excellence” for extraordinary achievements (with more than 700 out of a possible 800 points) went to the Austrian team. This also made Austria the best EU nation.
Event with thousands of visitors
The Chamber of Commerce and Styria as well as the City of Graz organized the event with hundreds of participants and thousands of visitors and brought it to the stage without any major problems. The event was originally planned for autumn 2020 and had to be postponed twice due to corona. Finally, an additional challenge was the relocation of the venue from the Graz trade fair to the Schwarzlsee leisure center.
Radstädter wins gold
The successes were of course also celebrated by the team: “I am overwhelmed by winning the gold medal. This victory makes me incredibly proud, ”said gold medalist Hiebl in a first reaction. “I would like to thank all of the people who have supported me on this path. Especially my family and my company! “
Silver medal winner Leymüller expressed himself in a similar way: “I can’t really grasp all of this yet. The competition in our competition was extremely strong and I am happy and grateful to have won a medal at all. Now I have to recover from the exhausting days of competition. The EuroSkills were simply an overwhelming experience. I will not forget that in my whole life! “
