Transport Online – Complaining officials were kept away from ex-alderman Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM – Officials who complained about the transgressive behavior of the dissolved Amsterdam alderman Laurens Ivens were kept away from him. This is stated in an external investigation into Ivens, that the origin of an appeal to the Public Administration Act by Het Parool was made public on Monday. According to the research, the impact of the women’s behavior was largely enhanced by the way the municipality of Amsterdam dealt with it.
Iven addressed four formal complaints from female employees about verbal abuse. There were also reports of undesirable behavior in 2019 and 2020, although this was not formally reported.
Those who complained were deliberately kept away from meetings where Ivens was present. According to the research, this mainly worked to the disadvantage of the women, the ex-alderman trades relatively few of these effects. “While it is suggested that this was done with good intentions, the result of limiting the women’s work and daily routines was to do nothing for the person concerned,” the report concludes.

This included ‘resentment’ and ‘displeasure’ in the women about the way their complaints were handled. What Ivens said exactly was not made public to protect the identity of the women.
Ivens was active in Amsterdam municipal politics for fifteen years on behalf of the SP. His successor as the new Amsterdam alderman for building and housing is Jakob Wedemeijer.
