Naples, the Pope appoints 3 new auxiliary bishops

The Pope accepted the resignations from the office of auxiliary bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Naples presented by Monsignor Lucio Lemmo and Monsignor Gennaro Acampa. Pope Francis has appointed as auxiliary bishops of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Naples Monsignor Gaetano Castello, Michele Autuoro and Francesco Beneduce. The Curia of Naples gave the news.

The auxiliaries Lemmo and Acampa, with the late Monsignor Salvatore Angerami, who passed away 3 years ago, were the main collaborators of Cardinal Sepe for about one survivor they left due to age limits. As for the new auxiliaries, Mons. Gaetano Castello, 64, was president of the St. Thomas section of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy where he still teaches Sacred Scripture. From 2007 to 2012 he was Episcopal Vicar for Evangelization and Catechesis. He was also Episcopal Delegate for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue, and rector of the church of the Madonna del Carmine in San Giovanni a Teduccio, Mons. Michele Autuoro, 55, was born in Procida, in the province and archdiocese of Naples. Among other things, he was director of the CEI Missionary Office and of the Missio Foundation (2013-2018).

Mons. Francesco Beneduce, 65, Jesuit, in Grumo Nevano, province of Naples and Diocese of Aversa. Until now he has been rector of the Pontifical Campanian Interregional Seminary of Posillipo, Naples.
