Jambon: ‘Last measures gone if Brussels vaccinates quickly’
Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA) protected Monday, as is tradition, his September statement to kick off the political year. applied, he handed out a small injection to Brussels. He urged the Region to work quickly on the vaccination against the corona virus. “Only then can all measures in Flanders be removed,” said Jambon in the Flemish Parliament.
Jambon did not pay much attention to Brussels in his half-hour speech. The Flemish policy minister-president explained future new choices, the budget deficit and the Flemish recovery plan. Some of these elements apply indirectly to the capital.
Just think of investments in childcare (58 million euros), disability assistance (1.6 billion euros) or healthcare (1.2 million euros). It is not clear how much of this flows back to Brussels. Jambon also promised improvements for the cultural sector and wants to retrain more job seekers or help them find a job. That will also have an impact on Brussels.
The Flemish Prime Minister is also looking forward to the end of the corona crisis. “Fortunately, in Flanders we can already lead a fairly normal life. Soon the mouth masks will disappear in catering and shops,” said Jambon, who reminded the Brussels Region of its duties. “I hope that the level of training in Brussels will also be raised soon, so that we can solve the last measures in Flanders as quickly as possible.”
