Employment increased, unemployment decreased in Finland in August
EMPLOYMENT increased and unemployment decreased in Finland in August, reveals the latest labor force survey By Statistics Finland.
According to the study, the number of employed persons increased by 104,000 from the previous year, which raised the employment rate trend to 72.8 per cent. The number of unemployed decreased by 33,000 from the previous year, which increased the development of the unemployment rate to 7.6 per cent.
In August, there were 44,000 more employed men and 59,000 more employed women than a year earlier.
Pasi Kuoppamäki, Chief Economist at Danske Bank, interpreted the statistics as evidence of continued economic recovery. This in turn draws people from the unemployed to the employed.
“Companies are recruiting more labor, as evidenced by the increase in job vacancies and employment rates. Some companies already have a shortage of skilled labor, indicating that the market has recovered fairly quickly. Not all sectors, such as international tourism, will return to their former state this year, ”he commented.
For example, the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) recently reported that the skills gap has been felt by up to 80 percent of companies.
A total of 281,000 people were registered as unemployed jobseekers at municipal surveys and TE offices in August, a decrease of almost 50,000 from August 2020. The number of unemployed jobseekers fell, especially in Ostrobothnia, Pirkanmaa and Southern Ostrobothnia.
The number of people laid off temporarily was 25,000 at the end of last month, which is 36,000 less than in the previous year.
