Česmad, Slovakia is also threatening the collapse of supply
The collapse of supply is also threatened in Slovakia. The responsible representatives of the state are warned against this by the Association of Road Carriers of the Slovak Republic Česmad Slovakia and recommends them to introduce measures. According to the first vice-president of the association Pavel Piešťanský, the latest example of Great Britain shows that the protection of the domestic market in this area is illusory and can, on the contrary, paralyze the country’s economy.
He pointed out that hundreds of thousands of drivers were missing in Europe. According to him, more than 12,000 vacancies are in Slovakia and yet many are going abroad.
Critical lack of conductors
“The growing necessity in transport companies in Slovakia, where there is currently a critical shortage of drivers, can lead to drastic protests and supply cuts in Slovakia, as seen in the British Isles,” Piešťanský said, adding that after the first year since the pandemic began COVID-19 terminated the activities of more than 20,000 professional drivers in Slovakia, who did not renew their driver qualification cards.

According to him, there are several reasons for the lack of professional drivers in Slovakia. He stated that Česmad has been insisting for years on all governments for uncompetitive legislative conditions for drivers.
“Slovakia is the last EU country that does not sufficiently apply the EU Directive on driver training and driving licenses and does not allow most of the age of professional drivers who could come to the labor market,” Piešťanský added.
Insufficient remuneration of drivers
According to him, in recent months, the association has been communicating to a member of the government the need not to react to a situation that “expels” drivers from Slovak trucks and does not allow them to be rewarded as in the surrounding states. According to Piešťany, the costs of the driver’s business trips are unacceptable and the associations are asking for an immediate repair.

He emphasized that in order to address the critical shortage of professional drivers, it is necessary to open the Slovak labor market to drivers from third countries and to introduce national visas for the profession of driver.
“Closing the borders for applicants for work permits in Slovakia is incomprehensible and threatens the jobs of us all. The applications of Česmad Slovakia and at least have been moved from one minister to another for several months without a response, “Piešťanský remarked.
The situation may get worse
The association is convinced that if the passenger carriers had a sufficient workforce, they will bring an additional 10 to 100 million euros per month in Slovakia in revenues and millions of euros to social and health insurance companies.

“Česmad Slovakia can control the Slovak Republic for the immediate introduction of measures so that we do not face the collapse of supply as in the United Kingdom. The Association of Road Carriers expresses the belief that the Slovak government cannot intervene and that carriers will not be forced to force their reaction, “said Piešťanský.
