Casini (Mpv) on the referendum in San Marino, “the game does not
“The game is not over. The referendum must be considered the starting point. The experience you have lived was not new, it was in vain because you have infused a vigor into society, you have fermented a social fabric that is now richer, you have been an opportunity for reflection for many. History will prove right to those who have put themselves on the side of the smallest, poorest and most defenseless among human beings ”.
This was written by Marina Casini Bandini, president of the Movement for Life (MPV), in a letter to the “pro-life friends of San Marino”, after the outcome of yesterday’s referendum which saw the votes in favor of decriminalizing the abort. Casini recalls the final document of the conference that was held in Rome on May 24, 1981, after the referendum on abortion, indicating some of the areas of commitment and dedication to promote the culture of life, despite the legal system favorable to abortion. . These include cultural, biological, medical, juridical and sociological study “to spread the truth about man more and more”; action in defense of human rights, of which that to life is the first and the source of all others; “Preparation and study to prevent new attacks on life, dignity and human rights”; “Careful criticism and denunciation of any abuse in the application of law 194, on which it confirms the negative negative opinion”; “Concrete testimony of welcome through the territorial diffusion of the Life Aid Centers”.
Making the conclusions of the document her own, the president MPV relaunches: “The culture of life cannot be understood only as a defense, but has spaces of hope that must be filled with the love of man”. Therefore, he observes, love “for life” does not “allow itself to be limited to the commitment to a referendum result that must also be sought or to a legislative battle that must also be fought. Those who are “for life” are interested in “the concrete man, his concrete life as a permanent problem”. On children conceived at risk of abortion and on their mothers “we will measure our choices, as episodes of a wider and longer commitment”, he concludes, quoting the words of his father Carlo, founder and first president of MPV.
