Versatile training
The apprenticeship training to become a boat builder is demanding and versatile at the same time. Anyone who wants to build a boat needs a lot of know-how. Different materials have to be processed. This means that the apprentices who are trained in boat building are made with the materials wood, plastic and familiar metal in the very first year of their apprenticeship. The apprentices at the company in Mattsee are also privately interested in sailing.

Different types of boats are manufactured at “Sunbeam Yachts”. Wolfgang Hollerer trains the apprentices in wood construction, for example, and works in the carpentry shop. He explains: “We build the furniture like in a carpenter’s business. Our apprentices take care of the joinery, metal and plastic sectors. In the first year of the apprenticeship the apprentice is in the wood department, in the plastics department, in the metal department and also in the assembly department I’ve been with the company since March 2020. Sometimes I paint so that everything is watertight, sometimes I help with gluing. Sometimes I grind The apprenticeship is a lot of fun because it is varied. What is special as an apprentice in boat building for me is that I used to work actually didn’t have that much to do with boats, I have some engine technology with me and that is fun. I am fascinated by working with different materials “. The second apprentice is called Sebastian and will soon finish with the apprenticeship examination. He previously trained as a chef / waiter and office clerk and just wanted to do something new. He is also personally very interested in sailing because he is also involved in water rescue. For the apprentices, the joy of sailing is the foundation of their success.
