Another step towards the completion of Vítězné náměstí, a residential house began to be built here
This will end almost a century of groping, what about the place that is part of the concept of Victory Square by architect Antonín Engel from the 1920s. His vision was a modern style of the northwestern city modeled on the reconstruction of Paris in the 19th century, Victory Square was then to be the center of events, but the original ideas remained due to the economic crisis and World War II torso.
It was not until 2010 that the LINE project of architect Radan Hubička, who developed for PPF, was to change the location of today’s gap. Although the mostly office building received the project of the year 2013 award, neither the public nor some of the experts accepted the project. “The path to the final we are approaching has not been easy. The original project was to have a different function and form. In my opinion, the resulting project is of high quality and Victory Square deserves it, “said the Mayor of Prague 6, Ondřej Kolář (TOP 09).
Architectural studio Jakub Cigler Architekti (JCA) designed a consortium for the construction of a gap, a residential building that is similar to the original idea of this part of the square. According to Engel’s concept, the building at the site of today’s gap was to be the axial counterpart of the Army General Staff buildings. In the plans, the two buildings were the same, only mirror-inverted.
Mirror counterpart
“Victoria Palace is the mirror counterpart of the General Staff buildings. The facades of both buildings have a significant vertical division. The main ledge is at the same height as the staff ledge and finally the ledges of the surrounding square buildings. The saddle shape of the Victoria Palace roof, formed by slats, is a copy of the roof of the General Staff, “said Penta Investments spokesman Ivo Mravinac.
“I believe that this will be the best thing we have done so far in residential development,” said Penta Investments partner at the start of the construction, believing that there was not much to bother the neighbors in the adjacent houses with the construction industry.
For about a billion crowns, a nine-storey building with 97 flats was built, the two underground floors are for technical facilities, cellars and especially for 135 parking spaces. According to the requirements of the city district, there will be a supermarket in the building, in addition to which there will be a pharmacy, a bank branch and also a telephone operator.
“I am the representative of the fourth term and I have always closely followed the events here. With Cimrman, I must say that these have always been moments of anticipation of the fulfillment of the architect Engel’s concept, replaced by moments to see that it is not succeeding. Now I hope that we will be able to complete the Victory Square as a whole and today we will take a significant step towards that, “commented Jakub Stárek (ODS), Deputy Mayor of the Sixth City District, on the beginning of the construction.
