Toulouse: the “Capitole Gentlemen” trip for the benefit of the Toulouse Cancer Health Foundation
The “Capitole Gentlemen Motorcycle” association brought together, this Sunday, September 26, a crowd of bikers who made a trip to the city center of Toulouse for the benefit of the Toulouse Cancer Health Foundation.
Fans of beautiful displacement on two wheels, of the great classics (Harley-Davidson, Guzzi, BMW, Triumph…) surely appreciated the ride organized for the first time in Toulouse, this Sunday, September 26 in the morning, by the association ” Capitole Gentlemen Motorcycle ”for the benefit of the Toulouse Cancer Health Foundation.
Nearly a hundred motorcyclists rode roughly from the Pont Neuf – with an appointment around 10 a.m. with a health pass and QR registration code -, via the Saint-Michel district, the slopes, the Oncopole, the boulevards Toulouse.
The procession arrived around noon on the Allées Jules Guesde, opposite the Quai des Savoirs where the motorcycles were parked. On the spot, stands, something to eat and hope, for the participants, to raise a maximum of funds for research against cancer.
Research and the challenge of new technologies
The Toulouse Cancer Health Foundation was created more than ten years ago and is located at the Oncopole. It makes it possible to finance research projects against cancer, by making fundamental researchers and clinicians and experts in biology. It also has an international scientific council made up of French and European specialists.
And it is not François Almaric, professor emeritus of molecular biology at Paul Sabatier University and president of the Foundation, present this Sunday, who will say the opposite. He has fought hard against the disease for years, keeping abreast of research that increasingly feeds on big data.
“Depending on the money we raised the previous year, explains François Almaric, we will certainly fund three projects for up to 200,000 euros each, over two years. The world changes. We also have collaborations with new disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry. Why ? Because we produce a lot of Big data and it is not biologists or doctors who are able to process it. So, this year, given the call for projects launched on single cell [plateforme d’analyse en cellule unique, NDLR], the idea is to study cell by cell from a tumor. it means new technologies. It is a joint effort and it is the advantage of having a local Foundation ”.
