The important security device deployed in Toulouse for the Prime Minister’s room on Saturday, September 25, claimed at least one victim. A Toulouse woman was reported by the police to join her mother who was dying in hospital.
Orders are orders. And when they are applied rigorously and without any humanity, we sometimes end up in ubiquitous situations. And dramatic. This is what Michelle, a 71-year-old Toulouse woman, suffered on Saturday morning in Toulouse. Urgently called to go to her dying mother’s bedside, Michelle was unable to join 92-year-old Jacqueline and accompany her in her last moments. This is because of the police roadblocks set up on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s visit to Toulouse, which practically prevented passing from the right bank to the left bank of the Pink City.
“You just have to write”
Jacqueline had been hospitalized for six days in the palliative care of the Joseph Ducuing hospital, rue de Varsovie. This Saturday morning at 11:45 am, Michelle arrives on foot (the hospital is a quarter of an hour’s walk from her home, located on the right bank) at the Saint Pierre bridge, which is forbidden to her by a representative of the law enforcement: despite the urgent need put forward by the Toulousaine, the official’s response is categorical: impossible to pass, only the Pont des Catalans is open (i.e. on foot about forty minutes more). And if you’re not happy, just write. Michelle takes a bus and arrives at the hospital at 12:30 pm … her mother has been dead fifteen minutes ago! What to say ? If not that stupidity is sometimes almost criminal …
