Kamil Khafizov, head of the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that there is no development of coronavirus strains more dangerous than the “delta” in Russia, this option is almost 100 percent of all circulating in the country, reports TASS…
The epidemiologist explained that in Russia, as in other countries of the world, new branches appear inside the delta line that differ from each other in RNA, but it is not yet known whether they make COVID-19 more infectious. He added that according to some reports, this strain has practically exhausted its ability to perceive the effect of protective antibodies to a lesser extent.
“If and what to expect something even more terrible, then, perhaps, it is no longer from this genovariant. Therefore, the answer to the question is no, at the moment the development of strains more dangerous than “delta” strains has not been recorded, “Khafizov is allowed.
The expert clarified that all variants of the coronavirus circulating in the Russian population are “delta” and its derivatives, previously marked “alpha”, “beta” and “gamma”, all imported from abroad.
Khafizov added that the mu strain does not pose a threat to Russia, even if it appeared on the territory of South America. The epidemiologist concluded that variants more dangerous than the “delta” were not recorded not only in Russia, but also in the world.
Earlier, Alexey Agranovsky, professor of the Department of Virology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow State University, predicted which strain of coronavirus would dominate until the end of the pandemic. In his opinion, the COVID-19 delta strain may remain dominant in Russia.
